Old Hall is nestled in a private woodland and is the ideal place to come and relax. We’ve equipped our south lakes caravan park with convenient facilities and amenities to help you make the most of your time here with us, from fast Wi-Fi to children’s play areas. Whilst our park is tucked away in a private area, local towns and activities are nearby, perfect for some exploring with the family. The team here at Old Hall are dedicated to giving you the best possible experience, with regular groundskeeping and maintenance to keep things working and in order.
Our Yorkshire Dales caravan park has always been family-owned. Dating back to the 1940s, the family moved to the Capernwray area as sheep and dairy farmers. Twenty years later, John Wightman acquired the farm and continued the family’s farming legacy until the caravan park was established.
Previously our park was owned by David and Dot Wightman and has been recently taken over by their son James and his wife Beth. James grew up with his parents running the park, so he knows the grounds inside and out. His wife, Beth, worked on the park for ten years and now works in finance elsewhere. James and Beth have three children; Eli, Scarlett and Boaz. The family enjoy walking, camping, and making cider with home-grown and locally sourced apples, as well as being involved in a local church.
Our heritage and family history in the area is a huge part of what makes our holiday park special. We strive to make you feel at home and are here to help whenever you need us.
We’ve created our park to be equipped with everything you need, here are the facilities you can expect here at Old Hall:
We’ve also got a payphone, laundrette, and information room to help make your stay more comfortable.

The closest town is Carnforth, home to key amenities like supermarkets, in addition to cafés, bookshops, and an award-winning station and visitor centre. Carnforth station gained popularity after being featured in the 1945 film, Brief Encounter. The visitor centre features a recreation of the original station cafeteria where the two main characters met and is now a hotspot for enjoying afternoon tea and other refreshments.
We’re also proud to be located near Leighton Hall, a gothic mansion that belonged to the world-famous Gillow furniture family. In addition to the historic interiors, the hall also features a stunning walled garden, with a path maze and bee corner, which is perfect for a leisurely stroll.
Our caravan park is in close proximity to Lancaster, too. Lancaster has a wealth of heritage, from the iconic castle to the Ashton Memorial, there’s plenty to keep you occupied for a day out. Take a stroll along the canal, visit the many independent cafés and shops, and perhaps even finish the day off with a meal at a cosy pub.
